Mini Surgery Day

READER DISCRETION IS ADVISED
So today I had to have my part of my big toenail removed due to last week's run (or lack there of) in with Mary B.'s bottom concrete stair. I was squeezing this little procedure in today between teaching a class this morning and a meeting at school this afternoon. Luckily, my wonderful mother was able to accompany me to the podiatrist office. When we got there, we were taken into the back surgery room which was a sterile and scary environment. Dr. H came in and gave me a couple shots of something in my foot to make in numb. The shots hurt like crazy, but way better than what was to come without the numbing. I totally thought all it was going to be was a minor clip, toe nail off... but the amount of skin I ripped was unreal. After the toenail was off, he started stitching together the skin above the toe with something the resembled a fish hook. My skin wasn't all together cooperating, so it took a little bit longer. After a lot of blood, 4 stitches, a few steri strips, and a ton a gauze, I was all finished and ready to go to my meeting. Luckily, my new team mate, Lindsey, made some cupcakes, because cupcakes make everything better! Little did I know that more cupcakes would be coming from Hope and Mary! Thanks to everyone who was nice to me today, even though instead of crabby, I was LOOPY and kind of spacy! No pain meds however, just oral and cream for antibiotics. I'm really hoping I'll be able to drive tomorrow and walk a little better than today. I go for a follow up with Dr. H on Friday. I'm sure I'll keep you posted. :)My foot pre surgery

Ouch!

After a fabulous "reverse surprise" party that Mary, Mary, & Adrienne threw for my mom at Mary B.'s house, I sadly had to make a dramatic entrance. Tina was tired and wanted to get up early, so we said our good byes as the birthday queen started to open presents. Tina was commenting at how dark the suburbs are and as I was getting ready to defend suburban living, I missed one of the concrete steps and tried to break my fall with my big right toe. Sadly, I still fell, and my toe took a beating. After using our cell phones to see what the damage was, I realized my black flip flops were now a shade a red, and suddenly, my Lincoln Park After Midnight nail polish was now looking more like blood red... My toe was gushing blood and throbbing like crazy. One of my mom's friends who was a nurse, took care of me, and told me to go to the ER, just so that I didn't get an infection. So Tina drove me home, and Mike and I headed over to North Shore hospital. After looking for McDreamy and McSteamy and sadly being disappointed, they irrigated and cleaned off my toe, took an x-ray, and glued the nail and open skin shut. I also needed a tetnus shot, just in case. Me and my sprained toe are still in pain but are ready for bed after this event! Needless to say, I'm going to take it easy this weekend, and maybe Mike will paint my toes... One can hope!

Happy International Left Handers Day!

Happy 50th Birthday BarBRA!

Happy Birthday to our Favorite Birthday Barbie! Mary B. and I worked hard this morning to create this display. Mary B. collected some of their girlfriends old bras, we made a sign at school, and went to town! There are 50 bras (or more) displayed throughout the yard. There might be some more pictures from the continued celebration... it started in February, and I think it's going to go on for 50 more days...
