Today is the start of week 14... Here is what the baby is up to according to babycenter.com:
This week's big developments: Your baby can now squint, frown, grimace, pee, and possibly suck his thumb! Thanks to brain impulses, his facial muscles are getting a workout as his tiny features form one expression after another. His kidneys are producing urine, which he releases into the amniotic fluid around him — a process he'll keep up until birth. He can grasp, too, and if you're having an ultrasound now, you may even catch him sucking his thumb.
In other news: Your baby's stretching out. From head to bottom, he measures 3 1/2 inches — about the size of a lemon — and he weighs 1 1/2 ounces. His body's growing faster than his head, which now sits upon a more distinct neck. By the end of this week, his arms will have grown to a length that's in proportion to the rest of his body. (His legs still have some lengthening to do.) He's starting to develop an ultra-fine, downy covering of hair, called lanugo, all over his body. Your baby's liver starts making bile this week — a sign that it's doing its job right — and his spleen starts helping in the production of red blood cells. Though you can't feel his tiny punches and kicks yet, your little pugilist's hands and feet (which now measure about 1/2 inch long) are more flexible and active.
How far along? 14 weeks
Total weight gain/loss: +/- ? lbs. My mom doesn't have a scale in Marco Island.
Maternity clothes? Yes. Pants for sure and a few of my shirts. I feel like the maternity clothes make me look pregnant and not just overweight.
Sleep: Still going to bed early, however getting up 1-2 times in the middle of the night. I'm always up between 3-4 a.m. and have a hard time falling back asleep. I've also had to change sleeping positions to sleeping on my side.
Best moment this week: Going "public" with our news and seeing people's reactions - especially my students!
Movement: None yet.
Food cravings: A shake from Oberweis.... maybe when I get home from Florida.
Gender: Not sure yet, however people are speculating... Vote in the poll on the left! Mike and I can't wait to find out.
Labor Signs: Nope.
Belly Button in or out? Still in
What I miss: Sleeping through the night... however I'm sure that's long gone...
What I am looking forward to: Thanksgiving dinner x 2 and seeing Baby Schaab a week from Monday 11/30. We'll also be meeting the third doctor in our practice, Dr. Dillon. So after Monday, we'll know all three doctors!
Milestones: I'm officially in my 2nd trimester! "B Schaab" as Mary HT calls our baby is also in Marco Island for the second time. Mary HT is working on a collection of "baby bump" pictures with palm trees in the background. Once there is one I'm comfortable with, I will post it! :)
